About this walkthrough
This is a complete walkthrough for Hi-Res Adventure #0: Mission Asteroid.
Using this walkthrough will get you through the game with the least amount of time and wandering around, but may spoil the game and fun of exploring.
AdventureDoor walkthroughs use terms and phrases which try to match in-game texts as closely as possible. In some cases this means that walkthroughs have grammatical and typographical errors (such as "open door" instead of "open the door"), but it makes following the walkthrough easier while playing the game.
Commands typed into the parser are written in CAPITAL LETTERS.
Items which can be picked up as new inventory items and items which can be constructed by combining or using other items are written with bold text for emphasis.
General information
The parser is simple and limited, it doesn't understand very many synonyms for action words. Most commands follow VERB [object] format. Here is a complete list of commands that the parser understands:
ASCEND
BREAK
CLIMB

DOWN (or D)
DROP
EAST (or E)
ENTER
EXAMINE
EXERCISE
EXIT
GET
GO
JUMP
INSERT
INVENTORY (or INV)

Walkthrough
It is advisable to study the surroundings by typing LOOK ROOM or EXAMINE ROOM when entering a new area. These are not included in the walkthrough, as it is not required but can be done in every room.
- You start the adventure with a watch in the inventory. The mission is time-critical, and you can always check the time with the command LOOK WATCH. Note that doing this will eat five minutes of the remaining time every time you do it, as do all the other commands as well. LOOK WATCH immediately to learn the time and information about the watch.
- PUSH SWITCH
- OPEN DOOR
- ENTER DOOR
- TALK SECRETARY
- SAY STARSTRUCK
- NORTH
- WEST
- SALUTE GENERAL
- EAST
- EAST
- GET DISKETTE (DISK works too) (new inventory item: a diskette)
- PUT DISKETTE, and when the parser asks "into what", type INTO COMPUTER. (INTO DRIVE and INTO APPLE work too, the game actually uses a real brand name, but note that the brand has been changed in ports to different platforms)
- Read the flight plan, this should tell you how to get to the asteroid.
- EAST
- GET EXPLOSIVES (DYNAMITE or TNT work too) (new inventory item: some explosives and a timer)
- EAST
- EXERCISE
- EAST
- TAKE SHOWER
- WEST
- NORTH
- NORTH
- TALK DOCTOR
- OPEN DOOR
- Save game here!
- WEST
- NORTH
- UP
- PUSH BUTTON
- NORTH
- PUSH BLUE
- NORTH
- PUSH VIOLET
- READ SIGN
- PUSH THROTTLE
- PUSH WHITE
- PUSH WHITE
- PUSH ORANGE
- PUSH ORANGE
- PULL THROTTLE
- WEST
- GET SPACESUIT (SUIT works too) (new inventory item: a spacesuit)
- LOOK SPACESUIT
- EAST
- PUSH VIOLET
- SOUTH
- WEAR SPACESUIT
- TURN DIAL
- Save game here!
- PUSH ORANGE
- SOUTH
- DOWN
- SOUTH
- WEST
- ENTER CAVE
- SOUTH
- SET TIMER, and when the parser asks "how many minutes", choose anything except 90. The difference is how much time you have to spend to get back to planet Earth. Keep in mind that every command takes five minutes.
- DROP EXPLOSIVES, and when the parser asks "in the pit or on the floor", type IN PIT.
- NORTH
- NORTH
- EAST
- NORTH
- NORTH
- NORTH
- UP
- PUSH BLUE
- REMOVE SPACESUIT
- NORTH
- PUSH VIOLET
- PUSH THROTTLE
- PUSH BLUE
- PUSH BLUE
- PUSH BLACK
- PUSH BLACK
- PUSH WHITE
- PULL THROTTLE
- Now you are safely on the planet Earth, and what happens next depends on how you set the timer. You may have time to exit the rocket, or perhaps you don't; either way, the game should end up with you saving the Earth.
- PUSH VIOLET
- SOUTH
- PUSH ORANGE
- SOUTH
- DOWN
- SOUTH
- LOOK
- If you get this far, you should have a nice picture of the rocket in front of you when the winning message appears. Keep repeating some useless commands like LOOK or INVENTORY until the message appears.
Deaths
There are ways to get a game over by dying in this game.
Adventure game deaths can be unexpected, shocking, annoying, but also humorous and entertaining depending on the case. Some players want to explore them, while others want to avoid them.
Here is a list of such scenes in this game.
![]() |
Don't salute the general and get kicked out of the air force. (Strictly speaking this isn't a death, as you only get fired, not killed. This does lead to an immediate game over, so it is usually counted as an in-game death.) |
![]() |
Talk to the press and get kicked out of the air force. (Strictly speaking this isn't a death, as you only get fired, not killed. This does lead to an immediate game over, so it is usually counted as an in-game death.) |
![]() |
Fail to save the Earth in time. (Technically speaking this isn't a guaranteed death, as you may be either on Earth or in outer space when it happens. This does lead to an immediate game over, so it is usually counted as an in-game death.) |
![]() |
Pull the throttle when it should be pushed, or push the throttle when it should be pulled. |
![]() |
Use the thrusters (which the game erroneously calls booster rockets) on the launch pad. |
![]() |
Open the airlock in a wrong place and get sucked into space. (This death is all wrong! As Data explained in one episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, it's blown into space, not sucked into space. The bigger problem is that using the airlock in the right place doesn't cause any problems, so logically using it in a wrong place shouldn't change the way the airlock works.) |
![]() |
Try to land on the asteroid not following the flight plan. |
![]() |
Open the airlock on the asteroid without wearing a spacesuit. |
![]() |
Run out of oxygen on the surface of the asteroid. |
![]() |
Fall into the pit on the asteroid. |
![]() |
Get blown up by the explosives on the asteroid. |
![]() |
Drop the explosives on the surface of the asteroid. (Strictly speaking this isn't a death, as the result is the mission failing, not the protagonist getting killed. This does lead to an immediate game over, so it is usually counted as an in-game death.) |
![]() |
Stay too close to the asteroid when it explodes. |
![]() |
Follow a wrong flight plan and end up in the ocean. (Historically speaking, this doesn't make much sense. American capsules have landed in the sea, whereas Russian capsules have landed on solid ground. In addition, this gets the player killed and also fails the mission. The problem is, the mission can be carried out correctly, but the landing fails, in which case the protagonist should get killed but the Earth be saved. You also get demoted to helicopter pilot after your death!) |
