About this walkthrough

This is a complete walkthrough for Tales.

Using this walkthrough will get you through the game with the least amount of time and wandering around, but may spoil the game and fun of exploring.

Items which can be picked up as inventory items and items which can be constructed by combining or using other items are written with bold text for emphasis.

 


 

- Try to take the note from the table.
- Try to open the trunk.
- Try to open the chest on top of the catalogue shelf.
- Use Swiss army knife on the chest to open it.
- Take the small key from the chest.
- Use the small key on the trunk to open it.
- Take black book from the trunk.
- After the cutscene, pick up the note from the floor.
- Go to the catalogue shelf and look up "King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table" (note that it is indexed under "A").
- Go upstairs and click the highlighted book.
- Watch the cutscene. You will get a new inventory item, the magic bell, which is only available when you are inside a tale.

- Go downstairs.
- Go to the catalogue shelf and look up "The Epic of Gilgamesh" (note that it is indexed under "G").
- Go left and click the highlighted book.
- Talk to merchant about everything.
- Look at bas-relief.
- Talk to soldiers about everything.
- Go back to the merchant.
- Talk to merchant about the cheese he was selling. He will give you cheese.
- Go back to soldiers and show the cheese.

- After the cutscene, you are in prison. Use cheese with rope.
- Take the rope.
- Use the rope with the hook in the ceiling.
- Take skeletal forearm from the wall.
- Use skeletal forearm with protruding stone on the wall to make it fall off.
- Take straw from the floor.
- Take the stone and carry it to the rope.
- Use the rope with the stone.
- Use straw with skeletal forearm to get a forearm with straw.
- Use forearm with straw with the torch outside the cell to light it.
- Light the straws on the floor.
- Grab the rope.
- Watch the cutscene.

- Take the rope.
- Go left to the corridor.
- Take the magic bell from the table.
- Continue to the corridor and walk as far as you can.
- Try to hide behind clay jugs.
- Study the stone door and try to operate stone wheels.
- Hide behind clay jugs and watch how the passing man opens the stone door.
- Use the stone wheels like the man did to open the door.
- If you can't figure it out, the correct sequence is as follows: the bottom dial three times right, the top dial once left, the middle dial once right, and finally the top dial twice right.
- Go to the upper floor.
- Watch the cutscene.

- After the cutscene, use the magic bell and go back to King Arthur and talk to Merlin to ask his advice. You will get a new inventory item, the magic bag, which is only available when you are inside a tale.
- When back in the library, go to the catalogue shelf and look up "Gargantua and Pantagruel".
- Go right and click the highlighted book.
- Go to the tavern door and try to enter.
- Talk to the drunkard about everything, pay attention to the conversation as it holds answers to a couple of puzzles.

- Take the bottle from the ground.
- Go to the door and answer the password question based on the riddle you learned.
- If you can't figure it out, the correct password is "seasons". Note that the answer must be in the plural form.

- Inside the tavern, talk to Pantagruel about everything.
- Talk to Panurge about everything.
- Take the cup from the table.
- Try to open the travelling case next to fireplace.
- Try the tap on the barrel.
- Put the cup in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gilgamesh.
- Take the cup from the magic bag.
- Use the cup with a jar that has olive oil to get oil.
- Put the oil in the magic bag.
- Go left and talk to Atab about everything.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gargantua.

- Take the oil from the magic bag.
- Use oil on the tap.
- Use the bottle the tap to get wine.
- Give wine to Panurge.
- Repeat the last two steps twice more.
- Search passed out Panurge to get a note. Study the note carefully. The note doesn't have all alphabets written on it, so use it as a pattern to figure out the rest of them.

- Go to the travelling case and use the note as a guide to enter the password. Think back to the conversation with the drunkard to get the exact word. You can go outside and talk about everything with the drunkard, if needed.
- If you can't figure it out, the correct word is "trinch" and the way to write it with mathematical symbols is "+=*+*+".
- Take the key.
- Use the key to unlock the door.

- Go to the cellar.
- Try to talk to the innkeeper.
- Pick up a wood slat that is against the wall.
- Go back outside in front of the tavern.
- Go to the mill.
- Look at the bucket on the roof.
- Take a stone from the river pebbles.
- Throw the stone at bucket.
- Try to enter the mill.
- Open the floodgate, and go to the utility room to wait for the miller to come out.
- Enter the mill.
- Climb the ladder.
- Use the wood slat on the weathervane on the roof.
- When back outside, take a stone from the river pebbles.
- Throw the stone at weathervane.
- Pick up the bucket.

- Go back to the front of the tavern.
- Use the bucket on the watering through to get water.
- Go back inside to the innkeeper.
- Throw the water on the innkeeper.
- Talk to the innkeeper about everything.
- Go back to the tavern.
- Talk to Pantagruel about recipe. You will get the recipe.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter King Arthur and talk to Merlin to ask his advice. Talk about everything.

- Go downstairs.
- Go to the catalogue shelf and look up "Popol Vuh".
- Go upstairs and click the highlighted book.
- Take a stone eye from the sculpture.
- Take another stone eye from the sculpture.
- Throw a stone eye at jaguar.
- Throw another stone eye at jaguar.
- Pick up the stone eye from the ground.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gargantua.
- Use the bottle the tap to get wine.
- Put the wine in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Popol Vuh.

- Take the wine from the magic bag.
- Talk to Iktan about everything.
- Give wine to Iktan. He will leady you to the city.
- Talk to Mayan woman about everything.
- Talk to tradeswoman about everything.
- Go to the playing field.
- Look at the bas-relief.
- Talk to Mayan guys about everything.
- Watch the cutscene.
- After the cutscene you are in the Pelota match. Watch where the ball is going, and try to react accordingly.
- If you can't figure it out, here's the correct sequence: move left, head the ball, kick the ball, move right, head the ball.
- Watch the cutscene.

- Give wine to Papan.
- Pick up the dagger.
- Take the stone and move it to the top-most skull.
- Take the skull.
- Go to the door. There are two holes on each side of it. Use the skull on either one of the holes, and then use the stone eye on the other hole.
- Use the dagger on the slit in the door.
- After entering through the open door, take some tomatoes.
- Look at all bas-reliefs on the wall.
- Check the panel.
- Take the ceremonial staff.
- Use the ceremonial staff on exit.
- Take the skull and stone eye.
- Talk to Papan about everything.

- Go back to the tomato room.
- Put the skull and stone eye in the holes in the wall.
- Use the panel and move the tiles according to the myth. Note that some parts of the myth are constructred horizontally, whereas some others are vertically.
- If you can't figure it out, look at the picture and just try to make it similar.

- Watch the cutscene. You will get a medallion.
- After the cutscene, trade with Mayan woman, give dagger to receive grater.
- Go to the playing field.
- Talk to the gambler.
- Give the grater to the gambler.
- Play and win the tic-tac-toe game. Note that the opponent plays flawlessly, so you can't wait for a mistake on the gambler's part. The opponent is only thinking one move ahead though, so there's a proper response to everything you do, but you should think the game all the way to the end, which is essential in winning the game. There are more than one way to win the match.
- If you can't figure it out, look at the picture and just try to play it similarly. You should start from the central square to maximise the possible winning outcomes.

- Interact with bowls on the table.

- Trade with Mayan woman, give grater to receive dagger.
- Put the dagger in the magic bag.

- If you can't figure it out, look at the picture and just try to make it similar.

- Put the flour in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gilgamesh.
- Take the flour from the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gargantua.
- Put the cup in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gilgamesh.
- Take the cup from the magic bag.

- There are eggs on the table near oven, take eggs.
- Interact with bowls on the table. Follow the recipe to prepare the food.
- Slice up the tomatoes with dagger.
- Slice up the cheese with dagger.
- Use sliced cheese with sliced tomatoes.
- Use eggs with a bowl.
- Use flour with a bowl.
- Use tomato sandwiches with flour.
- Use floury sandwiches with beaten egg.
- Use battered sandwiches with breadcrumbs. You will get breadcrumbed tomatoes in the inventory (so how did those sandwiches change to tomatoes all of a sudden??).
- Use the cup with a jar that has olive oil to get oil.
- Use oil with a pot on the table.
- Try to put pot with oil on stone hobs.
- Take some wood.
- Use wood with embers.
- Put pot with oil on stone hobs.
- Use breadcrumbed tomatoes with hot oil.
- Watch the cutscene.

- Take a carrot.
- Put the carrot in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter King Arthur and talk to Merlin to ask his advice.
- Go to the catalogue shelf and look up "Sisyphus and Bellerophon".
- Go upstairs and click the highlighted book.
- Talk to the passerby about everything.
- Take the carrot from the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Popol Vuh.
- Go to the playing field.
- Talk to Papan about everything. You will get a spear.
- Put the spear in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Sisyphus and Bellerophon.
- Take the spear from the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gilgamesh.
- Put the rope in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Sisyphus and Bellerophon.

- Go to the Fogg house and knock on the door. Talk to Passepartout about everything.
- Knock on the door again. Talk to Passepartout about Phileas Fogg again. Talk to Phileas Fogg about everything.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter King Arthur and talk to Merlin to ask his advice.
- Go to the catalogue shelf and look up "Jack and the Beanstalk".
- Go left and click the highlighted book.

- Go to the house and talk to Jack's mother.
- Climb up the beanstalk.
- Go to Giant's house.
- Interact with ball of wool.
- Talk to Jack about everything.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Popol Vuh.
- Go to vegetable market.
- Trade with tradeswoman, give tomatoes to receive chili.
- Put the chili in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Jack and the Beanstalk.
- Take the chili from the magic bag.
- Exit the hole.
- Use chili on the cat.
- Enter the Giant's house through the hole.

- Try to take the fishing hook.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gilgamesh.
- Put the dagger in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Jack and the Beanstalk.
- Take the dagger from the magic bag.
- Use dagger on the fishing hook to get fishing hook.
- Exit the Giant's house.
- Use dagger on the ball of wool to get wool rope.
- Enter the Giant's house through the hole.
- Use the fishing hook on the wool rope to get a grappling hook.

- Try to open the chest.
- Take the spoon and use it to open the drawer.
- Take the key from the drawer.
- Study the paper in the drawer.

- Use the key on the chest. Use the hints from the paper and the mirror to turn the key in the right order.
- If you can't figure it out, the correct sequence is: 4, 2, 3, 2, 4, 5, 1.
- Watch the cutscene, after which you will get beans.
- Put the beans in the magic bag.

- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Sisyphus and Bellerophon.
- Take the beans from the magic bag.
- Try to use beans with ground.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Jack and the Beanstalk.
- Put the dagger in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Sisyphus and Bellerophon.
- Take the dagger from the magic bag.
- Use the dagger with ground.
- Use beans with the hole.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gargantua.
- Go to the tavern.
- Use the bucket on the watering through to get water.
- Put water in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Sisyphus and Bellerophon.
- Take water from the magic bag.
- Use water on the hole.
- Watch the cutscene.

- Talk to Bellerophon about everything.
- Read all the inscriptions on the wall and on the statue.
- Look at the owl.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter King Arthur and talk to Merlin to ask his advice.
- Enter Jack and the Beanstalk.
- Put the grappling hook in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Sisyphus and Bellerophon.
- Take the grappling hook from the magic bag.
- Use the grappling hook on the owl.
- Pull the grappling hook.
- After the owl falls down, interact with it.
- The goal here is to enter a phrase that will reach Athena. Use eyes to move the rectangle on the letters right and left. Clicking on the beak will switch two alphabets around that are inside the rectangle. Think of a Greek phrase that would fit the situation. If you are unsure about the correct phrase needed, read e.g. Wikipedia article about Athena and epithets about her. The greatest challenge (for those who don't speak Greek) is that the phrase must be entered in Greek alphabets. If you are unsure which Greek characters correspond to which Roman characters, read the inscriptions again to gain the necessary information about the alphabetic system.
- If you can't figure the phrase out, it's "Athena Glaukopis" (bright-eyed Athena).
- If you can't figure the Greek spelling out, it's "Αθήνα γλαυκῶπις".

- Watch the cutscene.

- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter King Arthur and talk to Merlin to ask his advice.
- Go to the catalogue shelf and look up "Thor".
- Go left and click the highlighted book.
- Talk to the unknown men.
- Talk to the unknowm men again about Thor. Insist once on the subject, then give up.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Take stones from the table.
- Take the wig off from your head.
- Use stones on the wig to create fire.
- Take the torch from the ground.
- Use the torch on fire.
- Use the torch on the candle on the wall.

- Take the runic stone from the table near the candle, and then take three more runic stones from the ground.
- Walk right.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Take two more runic stones from the ground.
- Look at the inscription on the wall.

- Talk to Alberich about everything.
- Go stand on the top-left part of the ice platform.
- Talk to Alberich.
- Use Alberich on the bottom-right part of the ice platform.
- Show runic stones to Alberich to have them translated.
- Place the three runic stones, strength, sun's energy, and water according to the inscription.
- Place the remaining three runic stones opposite to the previous ones according to their themes. Thor's battle opposite to strength, ice opposite to sun's energy, and fire opposite to water.
- Watch the cutscene. You will get the invisibility cloak.
- Use the invisibility cloak.
- Take Mjolnir (hammer) from the ground.
- Exit left.
- Watch the cutscene.

- Put Mjolnir in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Sisyphus and Bellerophon.
- Take Mjolnir from the magic bag.
- Use Mjolnir on golden gate.
- Watch the cutscene. You will get the golden bridle.
- Put the golden bridle in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gilgamesh.
- Take the golden bridle from the magic bag.
- Use the golden bridle on the horse.
- Watch the cutscene.

- Knock on the door and talk to Urshanabi about everything.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter King Arthur and talk to Merlin to ask his advice.
- Enter Thor.
- Put the invisibility cloak in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gilgamesh.
- Take the invisibility cloak from the magic bag.
- Use the invisibility cloak.
- Knock on the door and when Urshanabi comes out, get inside.
- Take the pouch from the table.
- Knock on the door and when Urshanabi goes out, exit.
- Take off invisibility cloak.
- Knock on the door and talk to Urshanabi about to be ferried to the island.

- Look at the stone formations on the island (there are no in-game labels for them).
- Use the stones next to the stone door and arrange them according to lower stone formation. Stacks of 1, 3, 1, 3, 2 from left to right.
- Go through the entrance.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter King Arthur and talk to Merlin to ask his advice.
- Go to the catalogue shelf and look up "The Divine Comedy".
- Talk to Dante and try to convince him to take you to the underworld. You can go through the conversation cycle as many times as it takes to find the right answers.
- If you can't figure it out, here are the correct conversation options: because you are a sinner; bitterness; because you see human reason in him; to find redemption; yes, but you are confident.
- Go through the entrance.

- Talk to Charon about everything.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Popol Vuh.
- Put the medallion in the magic bag.
- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Divine Comedy.
- Take the medallion from the magic bag.
- Use the medallion with Charon.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Talk to Enkidu about everything.
- Use the magic bag on Enkidu.

- Use the magic bell to return to the library, and then enter Gilgamesh.
- Take Enkidu from the magic bag.

- Watch the cutscenes and credits.
